Palisades nuclear plant restart

As of July 2, 2026 Holtec has closed out the last of Palisades' major restart projects — including primary-system passivation, steam-generator tube refurbishment, placing the turbine-generator on turning gear, and completing the upgraded fuel-handling system — and moved the site into final operational-readiness work. A federal court dismissed the remaining anti-restart lawsuit on July 3, 2026, clearing a legal hurdle. More than 5,000 individual work activities remain, after which the reactor core must be loaded and the ~800 MWe unit returned to criticality and reconnected to the grid. Completion has slipped from late 2025; CEO Kris Singh still expects a 2026 restart, ahead of a March 2027 power-supply contract, but Holtec has declined to set a firm date. Success would make Palisades the first U.S. nuclear plant to return to service after entering decommissioning.

Boeing's recovery still depends on sustaining its Safety Management System rollout, factory-level quality controls, and stronger safety governance across Commercial Airplanes as production rates climb. Passing the FAA's capstone review to run the 737 line at rate 47 in May 2026 was an explicit validation of those quality gates; lifting further toward rate 52 (and ultimately 63) remains contingent on holding defect rates down as Spirit AeroSystems is folded back in.

Close the 2026 C919 delivery gap

COMAC has shipped only 5 C919s in 2026 through mid-July (none reported in May, June or July — stalled since April) against the 33-aircraft total Chinese airlines have planned, leaving it on track to miss the annual goal by roughly half. The near-term challenge is unblocking LEAP-1C engine supply, easing labor shortages, and lifting monthly throughput so cumulative deliveries can move from ~37 toward the airlines' annual plan.

The May 2026 $159M DIU contract modification — taking the program ceiling to $219M — commits Hermeus to a series of intensive 2026-2027 flight tests with the USAF and USN proving uncrewed Quarterhorse can hold high-Mach speeds while carrying and releasing payloads, the technical foundation for a Darkhorse-class operational system.

The High Enthalpy Air-breathing Test (HEAT) facility at Cecil Airport in Jacksonville — a ~$135M investment expected to create 100+ jobs over the decade — is being built in phases toward continuous high-Mach vitiated-air ground testing of the F100 and Chimera engines. Hermeus has said services should begin scaling in 2026, and the site is also intended to base high-Mach Quarterhorse flight-test operations into the Eastern Range.

HX-1 all-electric first flight at Plattsburgh

Heart's most recent public schedule moved the maiden flight of the X1 all-electric demonstrator into 2026 after a delay tied to a composite-wing rebuild. The X1 completed low-speed taxi testing at Plattsburgh in late May 2026 and is now progressing through its ground-test program (next, higher-speed taxi runs) toward FAA special airworthiness certification ahead of the first flight, which had still not taken place as of late July 2026 — the company continues to say first flight is expected shortly.

HX-2 hybrid-electric flight demonstration

The X2 pre-production prototype is Heart's next major aircraft after X1 and is meant to demonstrate the company's Independent Hybrid propulsion system and validate the integrated hybrid-electric stack, in-house subsystems, and production methods needed for the ES-30. It remains scheduled for a hybrid-electric flight in 2026; Anders Forslund has said the HX-1 slippage has only a minor effect on the HX-2 schedule because the two aircraft are being developed in parallel.
