Nvidia in talks to guarantee $250B for OpenAI data center
Nvidia is discussing providing a roughly $250 billion financing guarantee to help OpenAI lease a 10-gigawatt data center that SoftBank's energy arm is developing in southern Ohio, the Wall Street Journal reported on July 26. The backstop would cover the lease and construction financing but not Nvidia's chips, and comes alongside separate talks to finance OpenAI's chip purchases worth up to about $350 billion. The full project is expected to cost more than $500 billion, with a first roughly 800-megawatt phase targeted for 2028; the talks are ongoing and could still fall apart.
