LG Energy Solution restarts idled Ohio EV battery plant

GM-LG joint venture Ultium Cells is recalling roughly 850 workers to its idled Plant 1 in Lordstown (Warren), Ohio in stages from July 27 through mid-August, reversing a January 2026 shutdown triggered by weak EV demand after the US clean-vehicle tax credit expired. The restart is separate from the companies' Spring Hill, Tennessee plant, which is being converted to LFP storage cells, and signals that LG Energy Solution sees the broader EV demand slowdown nearing a turning point, with production expected to ramp back up in the fourth quarter after maintenance.
