Overview
Midsize SUV on Rivian's new platform, positioned below the R1 line and designed to drive much higher unit volumes. The R2 lineup is staged: Performance Launch Edition first, followed by Premium and long-range Standard trims.
Saleable R2 production started April 22, 2026 at Normal, Illinois (just five days after an EF-1 tornado hit the building) and first customer deliveries to reservation holders began June 9, 2026, starting with the R2 Performance Launch Edition (656 hp, 0–60 in 3.6 s) at $57,990. By mid-June Rivian had assigned more than 1,300 R2 VINs on a rolling daily order-invite cadence and was on track to deliver more than 1,100 R2s before Q2 closed June 30. R2 Premium ($53,990) is slated for late 2026 and the long-range R2 Standard ($48,490) for 2027; at the June launch Rivian also pulled its entry-level rear-wheel-drive R2 Standard forward from late 2027 to summer 2027 at a firm $44,990 (350 hp, 275+ mi est. range) after customer pushback over the original timeline.
