Claude Opus 5

Overview

Anthropic's recommended everyday default across the Claude API, Claude Code and claude.ai, released July 24, 2026 to succeed Opus 4.8. Anthropic says it approaches the frontier intelligence of Claude Fable 5 at half the cost, with gains over Opus 4.8 on agentic coding, computer use, knowledge work and complex reasoning.

Generally available with a 1M-token context window and a selectable effort level (low, medium, high); it replaces Opus 4.8 at the same price.
