Zhipu's Z.AI powers up 1GW data center on all-Chinese chips
Z.AI (formerly Zhipu) has begun partial operation of a roughly 1-gigawatt AI data center built exclusively on Chinese-made chips, reportedly running multiple clusters of more than 10,000 domestic accelerators each and no Nvidia silicon, Bloomberg reported. The facility is built to train and deploy the company's GLM models and follows Zhipu's placement on the US export blacklist. It is one of the first gigawatt-scale frontier-training hubs assembled entirely on domestic Chinese hardware, a milestone for AI compute self-sufficiency under export controls.
