Tesla, Sunrun and Renew Home to pool 16+ GW for data centers
Sunrun, Renew Home and Tesla announced on June 24 a framework to aggregate more than 16 gigawatts of fast, flexible power for hyperscalers, data centers and utilities - what they call the largest distributed power plant in the country. The capacity pools dispatchable output from hundreds of thousands of home batteries operated by Sunrun and Tesla with flexible peak load from more than 8 million smart thermostats and devices managed by Renew Home, requiring no new hardware, land, water or interconnection from offtakers. The companies say the capacity-as-a-solution model can be deployed in months rather than years and frees up headroom on the existing grid.
